Posted: March 9, 2018

At the NASW NM Conference this year,  NASW-NM will be hosting a Legislative Summit specifically focused on Behavioral Health in New Mexico on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Sandia Resort and Conference Center. The panelists are  Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino (social worker); Albuquerque Police Dept Chief Mike Geier; Sabrina Montoya, MSW chair of the Behavioral Health Care supporters (a group formed during the 2013 Behavioral Healthcare crisis); Ben Atelson a documentary producer who just finished a documentary on the Behavioral Healthcare Crisis; and Katrina Lotrum-Lopez, chair of the Behavioral Healthcare Initiative in Albuquerque. This is the group in charge of administering the behavioral healthcare GRT in Bernalillo County. The Summit will begin with recaps from NASW-NM’s advocacy work this last Legislative session and briefly address social work licensure updates and  work needed on the social work practice act in 2019. Representatives from the Board of Social Work Examiners will there  there to address any questions on a one-on-one basis after the summit ends. The main focus will be Behavioral Health, but if you have questions about social work licensure,  please make sure you attend. [The Board of Social Work is grossly understaffed/ funded and they are slow to respond to questions via email, fax, or telephone. causing difficulties and delays, so NASW-NM wants to provide an opportunity at the Summit to discuss concerns casually.] NASW-NM will offer One (1) CEU for attendance.
